Jocelyn Fitzgerald is a busy mom who manages three thriving businesses: she’s a published co-author, a licensed EMDR Consultant, and Board-Certified Art Therapist and runs an Etsy shop.
Her Vancouver Washington-based therapy practice centers around using art therapy and EMDR to help her clients to work through their life challenges and live their lives with joy.
Fitzgerald’s friendship with another basketball mom, school behavior intervention teacher Heather McClelland, prompted their shared observation that children are dealing with more stress than ever in schools, online, and in society and struggling with big feelings. These struggles show up in the form of inattention, outbursts, anger, difficulty with peers, prejudice, poverty, inequity... As parents and professionals, they wanted to find ways to help children manage and express their feelings in creative ways. In 2020, they formed Breathe-Art-Calm to promote mental health awareness for children and give talks around the country.
Jocelyn and Heather collaborated on bringing art and mindfulness into the classroom. Their work resulted in happier students, reduced absenteeism, and improved performance scores. Released in February 2021, Colorful Place: Mindful Story Art for Kids, is the first in a book released on the series of award-winning programs they tested out in their kid’s classrooms. An imaginary journey designed to delight kids, Colorful Place is an approachable, easy-to-use guide for parents, teachers, counselors, and therapists.
Breathe-Art-Calm’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of children.
A portion of all Breathe-Art-Calm book proceeds are donated to the Boys & Girls Club. For more info or discounts on multiple Colorful Place orders, go tobreatheartcalm.com, or order it directly from Amazon.
Through her 5-star-rated Etsy shop, Colorful Therapy Tools, Jocelyn offers a variety of fun, inexpensive, instantly downloadable tools for therapy on the topics of anxiety, body awareness EMDR, and personal development.
Jocelyn is also working on a collaborative professional textbook on the combination of art therapy and EMDR therapy, due for release in 2022 from Routledge.
Jocelyn earned her BA in Fine/Studio Arts from UC Santa Barbara, her MA in Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur University and is an EMDR Consultant.
When she’s not working, you can find Jocelyn hiking in the beautiful Pacific Northwest mountains, creating art, doing yoga, or enjoying dance parties with her little family.
