COURSE DESCRIPTION
This is an introductory-level workshop.
Understanding and normalizing clients’ gender identity, showing compassion for the needs of transgender youth, and understanding dysphoria are crucial for licensees/attendees to provide ethical and clinically sound therapy to all clients. By cultivating this knowledge and incorporating it into their practice, licensees/attendees can create a safe and affirming environment, address mental health disparities, and promote the well-being of their transgender clients.
Providing competent mental health support to transgender youth has always been vital, especially given how dangerous dysphoria can be. Given the current political climate, transgender youth are more at risk of losing supports and access to intervention, making mental health support even more crucial.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will have: gained knowledge, insights, and practical strategies to deliver competent, affirmative mental health treatment for transgender youth. The workshop aims to promote inclusivity, understanding, and ethical practices in working with this population, ensuring therapists can provide effective support along the gender identity journey of transgender youth.
