COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course content is related to a methodological, theoretical, research, or practice knowledge base. Information provided should help demonstrate the knowledge base being utilized as the foundation of the trainee.
The course content demonstrates relevancy to the practice of marriage and family therapy, clinical social work, professional clinical counseling, and/or educational psychology and incorporates one of the following:
- Aspects of the discipline that are fundamental to the understanding or practice
- Aspects of the discipline in which significant recent developments have occurred
- Aspects of other disciplines that enhance the understanding of the practice
- Related to the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of the client population being served
- Demonstrates credibility through the involvement of the broader mental health practices, education, and science communities in studying or applying the findings, procedures, practices, or theoretical concepts Is related to ethical, legal, statutory, or regulatory policies, guidelines, and standards that impact each respective practice
EDUCATIONAL GOAL
Participants will develop a foundational understanding of the Neurodiversity paradigm and its application to clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. This course is intended to build clinical skills in working with Neurodivergent clients and mixed-neurotype relationships, and to support participants in identifying and addressing their own biases in future clinical work.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Attendees will be able to:
- Identify 3 core tenets of the Neurodiversity paradigm and explain how they differ from the medical/deficit models.
- Describe 3 ways Autism and/or ADHD are commonly misdiagnosed or overlooked in clinical settings.
- identify 3 clinical considerations for working with clients who hold co-occurring diagnoses and/or multiple, intersecting identities.

Course Completion certificates will be awarded electronically in exchange for a completed evaluation form. Please make sure the Program Administrator has your correct email.
Course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Partial credit will not be awarded.
Participants must be present for the entire length of the workshop to be awarded credit. Participants will not be given CE credit if they are more than 15 minutes late and/or do not stay for the entire length of the workshop.
This course is provided by the San Diego Chapter of the California association of marriage and family therapists (Provider #57330) is approved by the California association of marriage and family therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and LEPs.
